Boycott Tourism to Botswana to End the Persecution of the Bushmen

About the Pledge

While the Botswana Tourism Board promotes its country with glossy images of Bushman hunters, Bushmen from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) are being starved and intimidated off their ancestral land.

Authorities are forcing Bushmen to apply for restricted one-month permits to access their ancestral land despite an unprecedented High Court ruling that upheld their constitutional right to live freely and to hunt inside the CKGR.

Now government forces are ramping up a campaign of intimidation and harassment against the Bushmen. Hunters are being arrested and face imprisonment and fines for an activity they depend on for their survival, and their long-standing lawyer has been barred from entering Botswana to represent his clients.

This could mean the end for the last hunting Bushmen in Africa.

Please join Survival International’s boycott of tourism to Botswana until the Bushmen are allowed to live freely on their land without permits.

I am appalled by Botswana's treatment of the Bushmen of the CKGR. Until their right to live freely on their land without permits is recognized, I pledge:

  • Not to visit Botswana; 
  • To raise awareness about this issue by sharing this action with my friends and family.
