Our nation's broken toxic chemicals policy left 300,000 West Virginians without drinkable tap water. The Toxic Substances Control Act is so weak that when a hazardous chemical leaked from a coal processing plant into West Virginia's water supply, officials did not know the harmful effects of drinking that contaminated water. We need real reform of this law now.

As your constituent, I am writing to demand real reform of our broken chemical safety laws. Any chemical reform legislation must include the same safety standard that applies to pesticides to ensure public health and safety; priority review of chemicals that show up in umbilical cord blood and our bodies; clear deadlines for chemical safety assessments; and protection of the states' ability to act when the federal government lacks the courage or capacity to do so.
