A biotech rider in a major appropriations bill, which would allow GMO crops to be planted regardless of court orders, is dangerously close to becoming the law. The rider prevents the courts from exercising any judicial oversight over GMO seeds, which could have potentially dangerous effects on both public health and the environment. Big Ag steamrolled Congress to pass this bill, but that doesn't mean they can't be stopped.
Organizations like Food Democracy Now and Alliance for Natural Health are advocating for President Obama to veto H.R. 933. If you support their work, sign this petition to prevent Big Ag’s attempts to remove judicial oversight, leaving consumers powerless.
To: President Barack Obama
I am writing to you to urge you to veto H.R. 933 as a result of the “Farmer Assurance Provision” in Section 735. This provision would allow companies like Monsanto to continue selling GMO-seeds, even when a court orders them to stop.
I am deeply disappointed that the provision passed but there is an opportunity to prevent this from becoming law. Please veto this bill and prevent "Big Ag" from profiting off of GMO seeds at the expense of the public good.
