Pledge to keep the Iraq and Syria regional crisis in the news!

Pledge Statement

I pledge to:

  • keep these topics trending by tweeting about the humanitarian emergencies using the hashtags #SyriaRefugees, #Syria, and #Iraq;
  • reach more people by using the Twitter handles for major news outlets in my tweets about the crises (examples: @cnn, @nprnews, @nytimes, @bbcworld @aljazeera);
  • follow @theIRC on Twitter to receive the latest updates on the conflict and our humanitarian response;
  • share this short video illustrating the widespread displacement of Iraqis and Syrians in the region.

About the Pledge

The number of Syrian refugees has reached the 3 million mark. Altogether, the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Iraq have uprooted more than 10 million people.

Right now, safety concerns in northern Iraq due to regional battles with ISIS—the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria—are affecting hundreds of thousands more Iraqis as well as Syrian  refugees who have already fled violence in their home country.

The regional conflict encompassing Syria and Iraq is the worst humanitarian crisis since the Rwandan genocide. Many families across the region are in dire need of basic necessities such as food, clean water, medicine, and shelter.

For the sake of all of the families affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, the IRC urges the international community to build pressure on media outlets through social media, urging them to keep these humanitarian emergencies in the headlines and at the forefront of people’s minds.

Pledge to do your part to keep the humanitarian emergencies in Iraq and Syria in the headlines and at the forefront of people’s minds.
