Pledge Statement
As an ally, I promise to do the following:
- I acknowledge that although I may not experience injustice regularly, millions of men, women, and children across the country struggle with it daily.
- I vow to be mindful of the words I use and decry the use of words such as “thug,” “looting,” and “rioting” to describe black protesters.
- I acknowledge the media’s often-biased portrayal of racial injustice and black communities, and I will read a variety of media sources and especially black-led voices.
- I promise to confront anti-black racism when I see it, including in my own family, school, social circles, and community.
- I pledge to support and lift up the work of the black leadership in the racial justice movements and work to create a world where future Jordan Davises and all black people can live free from the threat of violence, murder, and dehumanization.
About the Pledge
The Movement for Black Lives reminds us that we all have a responsibility—regardless of race or skin color—to take a stand against racial injustice. This problem is too massive and pervasive for any of us to ignore.
Even if you haven’t experienced it firsthand, you can be an ally in the fight to overcome more than 400 years of institutionalized anti-black racism in the United States.
Join Million Hoodies Movement for Justice by taking this pledge and becoming a force for positive change in your community.
